Florida, in a bold move, has officially banned the use of Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). The ratified bill, signed by Governor Ron DeSantis, will make the anti-CBDC law effective from July 1, 2023.
DeSantis, during the signing, voiced serious concerns that CBDCs could offer authorities a window into personal financial transactions, thereby undermining individual freedom. His stance is one of caution towards the digitization of the dollar.
The move positions Florida alongside Congressmen Tom Emmer and Ted Cruzen, who harbor similar apprehensions regarding CBDCs. In stark contrast, Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren appears to be advocating against financial freedom by supporting CBDCs, insisting that "it's time we moved in this direction."
